In 2017, I was tasked by the Sr. Vice President of Engineering & Product at GuideSpark, Inc., with restructuring the design department responsible for both developing and templatizing new content, specifically animated videos. The resulting structure was somewhat unique in one significant way: mentorship and career development responsibilities were separated from project-related decisions. In this way, the leads was able to mentor their colleagues, but art directors ran projects. In addition, paths for resolving project-related decisions were separated into creative and technical decision trees.
